Jungle Carpet Python(Morelia spilota cheynei)
My first ever python and still one of my favourites. I acquired my original female back in 1996, as a snappy three week old hatchling and still have her now. She is a placid, trustworthy adult, as is the case with most captive bred carpets.
Adults tend to reach around six feet in length and generally present very few problems with their maintenance. Hatchlings are generally snappy, but with regular handling, do calm down quickly.
When considering their bright colours, ease of care and relatively small size, they are a good choice as a first python.
My animals are kept in uniform enclosures, providing an ambient temperature of 80c and a basking spot in the high 80s.
My females have produced clutches for the last few years, so I hope to have some more babies available in 2010.
